BUT, you would be responsible for integration and testing- might require a little more knowledge.

Omnimic is $399 for the same money you could buy Fuzzmeasure hobbyist, the Behringer USB audio interface mentioned above, a Behringer mic, and have money left over. Also, it requires running in XP mode on Windows 8 to avoid some bugs. Most of my portables these days don't have a CD player anymore- it's kind of archaic except for data extraction of music. The CD is sort of a dongle, without the CD you can't test. One thing that particularly particularly bugs me about Omnimic is that it doesn't generate test signals in software, but by playing back CD tracks. It does have a lot of test capabilities which Fuzzmeasure has just recently added.

On the plus side, everything is calibrated to work together. Praxis included a hardware USB interface, but no microphone.

The software side is written by the same guy that created Praxis, which I have, but don't use anymore. So, what would be better, the OmniMic or Fuzzmeasure? OmniMic has hardware, too!I haven't used Omnimic or Omnimic 2, though I've collaborated with some who use it. You could use an external DAC for playback, and use the mic line in, I suppose, but I'd really recommend springing for at least something like the Beheringer.

($99.00 in the USA) The desirable part is having a real mic preamp, preferably with phantom power (though not needed in my case), and supporting higher sampling rates, if your microphone justifies it (ACCO Pacific condenser in my case, good to about 50 kHz.) My older Macbook Pro has the Firewire built in the Retina model uses a Thunderbolt to Firewire adapter. I use some discontinued TC Electronics models, like the TC Konnekt 8, and the Impact Twin, which are both Firewire, but even something like the Behringer U-Phoria UMC202HD will work pretty well. Thanks! The problem with using internal is that you really need to have a duplex two channel setup- one channel is used for playback and can be used to implement source correction, the other is used for recording- and that's just the bog basic setup. How do you get over the limitation of having a single input / output port? Should I use an outboard DAC and use the input exclusively? Though I have no clue as to the quality of Mac audio hardware.Ĭould I get away with the internal Macbook sound card for this?

Quick question: I have a PC based setup with an Audigy sound card and a Behringer calibrated mic. More later when I get a feel for what it can do. Some features, image export, are turned off in the demo. I've downloaded the App, and bought a license, good for two machines, which I should receive later today. But, the 50 new features claim does seem in line. Plots seem to take even better advantage of the retina displays, though Photobucket does it's damage to them.Īpologies for what Photobucket did to the PNG file with features list- compressed it down to a much smaller file. It still supports graph combining and other features from the original, but the UI shows it's a complete from the ground up re-write, which takes a little adjusting to. and simplifies getting setup by offering starting template formats when you start a new project. While it can open Fuzzmeasure 3 files and do what you're used to with them, it's got an awful lot more up it's sleeve. Maybe with exposure and some development history I'll pop for the Pro- who knows? Seems a fair way to do it, but for now I cheaped out and got the hobbyist version for $99, instead of the Pro for $499. It's going to be available in two versions, hobbyist and Pro, which differ mainly in the level of ongoing support available and early access to new major revisions. This is going to be of very limited interest to those of you using PC's, but for us Mac users, it may be a big deal-įuzzmeaure 4 is finally out- it's been in development and beta test for a long time, which is fitting considering the more professional aspirations and the feedback that working pro's can give for this kind of product.
